That frame doesn't look too bad after 15 years of kicking around in my log pile. Should be well seasoned by now

Re: Amal #30 pilot jet

My CCM has gone from 550 to 600cc. Cold starting is no problem, but when I stalled it in a race on Sunday it didn't want to start when hot so I am going to try a bigger pilot jet. I have fitted a bigger main jet and lifted the needle one notch and it runs really well - just got to crack the hot star...

I got one for my Cheney from SRM which is very well made. So good that I bought one for my CCM. I find it very useful for draining the sump when they have been left standing for a while.

I can vouch for the fact that Bamford Clough is a lot steeper than it looks on these photos/clip. I've been up it and down it many times, since I live nearby. Bike looks and sounds nice. Well done.

Re: b50 front forks for scrambling

Have B50 forks on my '73 CCM and they do the job well enough as far as I'm concerned.....usually. However, despite strip down and refit the front end keeps working a little loose at the headstock. The fork legs don't seem to line up exactly when looking across them. Have new bearings from PES, pump...

Well the rain didn't hold off but the old CCM's and B50 didn't disgrace themselves. I'm too modest to say who got the holeshot in the second race ;-) . Sadly it ended all too soon when the carb float bowl fell off. Our kid might have cracked a rib but the bike's ok. ccmicon

Nice track at Thirsk and a very friendly and well run event. Will definitely do this one again. New kickstart spring now fitted and interspan on charge ready for tomorrow. Track all set up and should be good if the rain holds off. :thumb

Re: Shock Hight Quandary for a hill climber

You need to set the bike up on a level surface and get the frame level to the ground so that the front wheel is just touching the ground. Then let the rear wheel touch the ground and measure the distance betwee the shock mountings. This will give you a good starting point.

I use Shell V Power from the local filling station with a splash of Valevemaster Plus. V power is at least 99 octane. The CCM and Cheney both run good on this.

Re: Amal Stay-Up float kit

I know this is slightly off topic, but what size main jet are you using in the 1034? #300 Mixture seems perfect with that and a #4 cutaway slide. Is that on a 500? I'm running a 340 main jet (having increased it from a 310) with 3.5 cutaway slide on a 550. Just wondered if its a bit too rich. John

Re: b50 convert to ccm 77

I have similar length Cerianis on my Cheney and have 14 inch rear shocks with a slighty longer swinging arm than original. I find that this gives a decent ride but obviously it doesn't measure up to the long travel boys.

Whereabouts do you ride? Most clubs would put a B50 in the pre 74 class.
