hi Jack I'm surprised at the lack of any protection of the transistor's E/C junction from the inductive voltage spike as primary coil current is interrupted. no protection needed because the type of the Transistor : Mj10012 it cops with 450 Volts and up to 10 Amps on C-E the inductive voltage spikes...

Add about 20mm to the length of each brake arm. I have addet already about 1 Inch on the arm ! I do wonder what you would have came up with if you had easy access to my toy shop I guess I would be much faster in producing things with a shop as yours nearby. I do use a Lithium ion battery from SHIDO but my one is a 30 WH only. Well done.
