New Premier Amal For tr5mx (Jetting)

I am getting ready to buy one of the Amal Premier carbs for my tr5mx, it has the 570 kit on it. On the original carb there is no actual pilot jet but I believe on the premier carbs they do have a pilot jet. Therefore what size pilot should I start out with when I order the carb?

Re: 74 TR5 MX Project For Ken

I made a styrofoam pattern for my seat, now the hard part is making it reality. Never made a seat before. Thinking of making the base from 0.125' ally sheet then covered with 1" thick foam on top an 1/4" on the sides. Not sure how I would attach the vinyl cover to the underside though. IMG_6724.jpg

Thanks Frank, that's kind of how I thought you did it. Good to see the close ups to confirm it :thumb I still have to rebuild my engine which is going to be the hardest part of the project for me I think!

Re: 74 TR5 MX Project For Ken

Well the fab work is pretty much done on the tank now finally, just have to weld some locators on the front inside the tunnel. Some of the welding came out very good and some not so good. I actually impressed myself with the welding around the tunnel/oil filler cutaway area, it was nigh impossible t...

Frank did you make those alum/rubber mounts for your tank or did you use rubber grommets and machine up the rest of it?

Re: 74 TR5 MX Project For Ken

I have now welded in the tank bottom and cut out for the tunnel which is giving me a better idea of how it's going to look. If I could start again I would have made the tank 40mm shorter as the front interferes with the oil tank return pipe. I can modify to accomodate that though. IMG_6624.jpg IMG_6...

I look forward to more progress on this project :thumb

I will look into those springs. I live very close to Racetech so I might head over there to see what they suggest also. They like to charge $$$$ though! As far as I am aware O/A is the best way to weld it, as mentioned that is how most pros do it. I have welded up one tank with O/A before and it is not easy and I have a lot of O/A welding experience mostly with steel though. The bungs I will use the tig though as I think it is easier when welding th...

Moving forward with the tank. I am not going for perfection here, more function. Still learning my new tig welder, one thing is for sure it is so much easier tacking with tig than oxy/acetylene. Still may do the final welding with gas though.
