You guys are quoting numbers that are being measured at all different valve lifts. You need to get on the same page and THEN compare numbers. <1011

If the inlet opens at 51 degrees before tDC @ .040" lift, your cam is too far advanced and wont be a big rpm'er.

THIS IS PROBABLY THE LAST FRAME I'LL BUILD FROM SCRATCH. Bike is now racing on the South Island of New Zealand. http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm170/HPbyStan/BSA/DSCF0022.jpg When last I was at your web site, you were talking about building your own frames. What became of that ?

Re: Final crankcase disassembly steps

I think you should replace the unit. Those tabs are prone to breaking without having been hammered flat. Just make sure you don't get one for a Triumph twin as while they look almost the same, they rotate in the opposite direction so the advance unit is backwards as well.

Re: Cam wheel

IMO, you want the heaviest cam wheel you can fit in there for inertia. The cam wheel dia. is too small and only going 1/2 engine speed to gain anything by lightening it and there's not enough lobes on the shaft to smooth out motion the for and aft pressures that the valve springs cause. If you want ...

Re: 1971 B50T Victor 500 Restoration.

Yes I think it is the wise thing to do. Although it seems good enough to run, this engine is a little low on compression, and it appears to be leaking past the piston and rings rather than the valves. It also has traces of Red Hermetite on the rocker box and cylinder base joint, I hate the vile stu...

Re: BSA C15/B25/B40 FLATRACK PROJECT

Unit singles aren't perfect to be sure. They do however let one fix everything except in my opinion the camshaft area is too tiny and we can't get proper cam lobe shapes. I've changed the rocker ratio to try to bandage that problem. Otherwise it is really rewarding to see the improvements one can ma...

On my B50 flattracker I used a pyramid reed valve that was sold by a company in Carol Stream, Il. It worked almost too well as a crankcase breather as the 40mm DeL...

I push the cam bush out of the timing case, cut a new notch 180 degrees from the standard one and push the bush back in blocking that tiny stationary engine type timed breather which cures all the oil leaks in that area and put in a larger breather from one of any number of places on the engine that...

With that swing arm angle, I'm guessing a spring loaded chain tensioner might be your friend. You probably already know this but, if you haven't yet you should probably use a tie down etc. to align the rear axle, swing arm pivot, and gear box sprocket and check that the chain still has a bit of slop...
