Lost v5

Post by baz »

I have a tale of woe
I decided to fit my b50 engine into my B44
I was merrily remaking the rear engine mounts when I decided to look at the frame number
I couldn't quite make it out its very faint so off I went to find the v5 and check what the chassis number should be
And I can't find the v5!!!!
And I can't remember what the registration number is !!!!
So now I have a real problem,I don't know the registration number and the chassis number is barely legible and I need both of these to apply for a duplicate v5!!!
I've turned the house upside down looking for the poxy v5
Not sure how I would stand now if I can't find it?
It's registered to me from about 12 years ago I just bought it as a fire damaged rolling chassis
(A Norton commando and a B44 were damaged in a fire)
I bought the B44 as an insurance write off from someone off eBay
At the time I just had to send off for the v5 and it came back in my name
Is there a way I can check what vehicle's I have registered to me? That way I would at least know it's registration number
Cheers

Write a letter to the DVLA explaining everything, they will still have it on their books (silicon) it is just a matter of convincing them to search based on the criteria you have. They should be able to find all vehicles registered to you and provide you with that info (freedom of info or something), get creative with the story of how you lost the paperwork (shed burnt down or fell to bits), might take a while, but they should come up trumps (can I still say that?) in the end.

Yep I will do that
It is registered to me at my address after all
I'll keep looking before I do

Just hope the DVLA do not ask for the frame number, a legitimate question if the bike is at your address, not sure its too faint to read will do you much good. The frame stamps are faint but 50 years later the DVLA will not be interested.

Looking at the number you can easily see it's not been tampered with because it's still got the foundry surface
It's maybe a replacement frame from back in the day
Or someone having an off day at the factory!!?

I've managed to find the original invoice from when I bought the chassis
So I now have the original registration number
It's just the chassis number that's a bit vague, I should now be able to apply for a duplicate v5
Interestingly yesterday before I found it I asked a traffic cop if he could search my address and check what vehicle's are registered to me
But he couldn't do it because every search they do is audited

Pleased to see the boys in blue are not corruptible, I guess you need friends in higher places!
