smiiths speedometer right

Post by madsundaysurvivor » Wed Sep 25, 2019 12:33 pm

Hello everyone,
A months ago, I broke up definitely the original speedometer of my Bonnie T120 1965, and it is impossible to repair.
Then I brought an aftermarket speedo copy of smiths grey face, the seller told me that was specific to 1966-up. But I touhght that it would be the same, craso error!!
The speedo dont work well in my bike (1965), the ratio is different, in 1965 the cable runs for the lay shaft to speedo.
Where can I buy the correct speedo afermarket for my bike? The original grey face smiths for my bike is too expensive, around 270€

Best regards
Ramon

Don't know the Bonnie too well, but Smiths speedos can be repaired, but at a cost (less than new).
The clocks in the photo are they the copies or original? The tacho looks to be anti-clockwise! Do you mean tacho or speedo? Do you have the ratio of the one you want (can be discerned from the part number on the bottom of the card)?

No replicas do the correct ratio ie 1600, your choice is to repair original or add 1.25 rear wheel gearbox and use the replica. There are some copies from India but of dubious quality and needs custom cable.

The clocks in the photo are only a sample of rebuilt in a USA shop.
All ready I know the price of repair mine.....uffff.
Yes, the tacho in 1965 runsanticlockwise.
I need the speedo meter, I brougth the 1966-up speedo for only 60€. Works well but in another ratio.
Then I'm looking for a replica of 1964-1965 smiths grey face, but I can't find it
Regards,
Ramon

You may consider your speedo unrepairable but I would give one of the repair people a try.

http://www.speedorepairs.co.uk/

Is A E Pople and he knows all about the 1965 T120R, he made the original anti clockwise 2:1 Tacho's for the 63 to 65 650's, as I have a really bashed about one but he confirmed on the phone no matter how bad it was he could repair at his normal fixed price.

Thanks for the adress, now I have the value the shipping costs Spain-UK UK-Spain.
On the other hand I have found in Baxter cycle this replica, but it isn't very similar, basically is a black face of t100, whit the dial in grey face design, but the size of numbers isn't right

That gauge is taller than the originals so will not match the Tacho height.
