More Drawings ?

Picked up some parts from BSA Regal earlier this week for another project of mine (http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/nvtrangerbsajunior/index.htm). Amongst the parts was a box full of drawings. Some of the drawings are for 'Project P92'. As soon as I get a chance to have a good look through I will confirm exactly what I've got. I think most are the same as already published but there may be some new ones! I will keep you posted

The drawings I have obtained are mainly on that grey coloured semi transparent film and are drawn in pencil (20"x15"). I’ve been checking through the 40 or so drawings over the last day or so. The P92 drawings include:

Some cycle parts
Oil pump
Connecting rod
Breather elbow
Carb bell mouth
Camshaft
Rear wheel assembly
Rear brake cable
Swinging arm gusset
Engine plates
Brake pedal

Unfortunately I do not have a scanner. So you will have to wait until I can get them scanned professionally.

There are a load of other drawings. I know ‘P’ means project but does anyone know which BSA/Triumph models the following refer to?

Hi SteveS, Hope you enjoy the treasure trove, just a thought how about giving us a taster by photographing the drawings, although the detail may not be perfect, we might be able to recognise something from a scaled down picture posted on the site.

I have an obvious interest in the P40, I might be able to help if I could see a photo of that :grin:

Hey Steve well found, any engine drawings are good for me. You be surprized at what I've learnt just from odd notes on original drawings. I'd gladly help with the costs of proffesionally transfering them to another medium.

I have checked the drawings I have against the drawings on CDB50MX's CD. There are a number of drawings identical to the ones that I have - 11 in all. However that still leaves 19 new ones covering engine parts and 32 covering frame and cycle parts.

I tried to take a picture to give you a taster of what's to follow but unfortunately my camera is useless. So you will have to wait a little while

And we'll also contribute to the professional cost of transferring to paper and digital (hopefully).

If you need help in that area let us know here on this board, there are plenty of us with engineering design experience and reprographic contacts as a result of that.

Triumph Motorcycles now own BSA!!

Steve when you picked up these drg's did it look like BSA Regal were downsizing? The reason I ask is that according to MCN Triumph now own BSA !! So with Triumph's track record it looks like we can expect to see some decent new BSA bikes in the not so distant future.

No not at all. BSA Regal are clearing out one of their old warehouses in order to build a larger factory in its place.

Several different groups hold rights to the use of the BSA name. This is both in terms of the size of motorcycle that can be produced and in which territory. It's a very complex area. It would be good to see all the issues ironed out.

After a few false starts and some amazingly poor customer service I have finally had the drawings returned and the first batch of CD's are ready.

The CD has 63 drawings, mostly 15"x20" in pdf format which can be viewed using Adobe etc. There are 29 covering what I would term 'Cycle parts' and 34 covering 'Engine parts'. Of the 34 engine drawings, 11 are the same as drawings already provided by CDB50MX.

If anyone is still interested in a copy of the CD please send me a pm at this site. Please ensure to include your name and address, an email address and your preferred payment method. The easiest way to pay for the CD is through Paypal, but I will accept other payment methods.

The price for the CD will be £12.75 GBP + £1.52 for postage and packing (first class post to UK addresses). If anyone wants the CD sent by another method I will quote separately. For overseas enquiries I will also quote separately.

Yes if you pm me with your email address I will then send an invoice/money request through Paypal. Include your postal address so I know where to send it to once the monies are cleared. I have to pay a fee to Paypal for the service but it saves sending cash or waiting for cheques to clear.

Chris, glad the CD arrived safe.

Everyone who ordered / paid for a CD by 22nd Aug o8 has been posted. Please bear in mind there is a UK national holiday on Monday which may delay the post by an extra day. All overseas enquiries have gone by Airmail - they quote approximately 5 day delivery, so please be patient.

The P34 drawings are probably the next ones to be done - time permitting.

There are also a lot of drawings labelled as DDI followed by a 4 digit number. They appear to be 'Design Detail ?' and show how assemblies of parts go together etc. For instance there are a couple showing the sequence of all the grommets and spacers used in attaching the B50/B25 electrical box to the frame.

cd received, thanks steve.
i did notice in previous posts, the clutch.
more plates, less springs, that's all ok.
let's locate it on the same old weakest link (taper & woodruff key), unbelievable :roll: . having said that, i would pay anything (well, almost) to be able to go out and buy a P92, it just sounds like it would have been a really nice bike. they were definitely heading in the right direction.

Thanks for confirming the CD arrived safely.

I was looking back over the drawings and can now recognise some of the frame parts as the isolastic front engine mount and the bottom engine mounts used to mount the revised B50 motor in the Bandit / Fury (P30) frame. This is very clear when you compare them against the pics published of the Sammy Miller P92 prototype in the P92 Tech thread p1.

Paul (Beesa 71) enquired about more frame drawings. I probably have got some of them but they are categorised as P30 which is why they were not included on the CD.

Interesting to see the things they were playing around with. Oil pump gears and gear-box tooth profiles.

I do love noseing through this stuff. Must be some earlier stuff kicking around somewhere.
