19T sprocket on B44VS

Postby pbrosnan » Tue Aug 02, 2016 12:55 pm

HI all,

Hi all, trust we are well. Been a while as I've been rebuilding the shed so as to provide more space and security for bike tampering. Anyway, I've bought a 19T gearbox sprocket some time back and feel that it's time to do something with it, e.g. put it on the bike. I see that the 17T is also used however I note that others have fitted the 19T. Just wanted to confirm that it is feasible and ask if there are any gotchas before I go to the trouble of fitting it. Thanks.
cheers
Patrick

Hi,

Got a 19T on mine, its very close down the front wouldn't want to let the chain go too slack... but other than that first ride is set for tomorrow evening so nothing to report back yet. Have given it a quick run down the road and back and it seems in 1st and 2nd to still pull really strong. I'm running 19 front 47 rear....

Don't know if that helps..

I put a 19T sprocket on my 68 BSA 441VS with a 47T rear and while good on the hiway it is way over geared for the back roads.I can only use 1st through 3rd with 4th being too tall, the engine bucks at 35 to 40 mph.I am going to go back to a 17T front and 49T rear sprocket on my bike.

I have a 19 with a 49 on the back, 428 chain so no clearance issues by using the early rear hub. The engine is twin plugged so uses less advance, mx cam and 32mm carb and runs well on backroads and faster roads but on back roads have to drop to 3rd more than normal.
