Stainless Steel Luggage Rack

Postby JB » Sun Mar 04, 2018 7:35 pm

If anyone here is interested, I am looking at getting a replica of the rear luggage rack (I think was available when our bikes were new) reproduced in stainless steel!
rack.jpg

I had one of these on my old B50SS back in the early 1980's, It's a very simple and neat fitting rack that is specific to OIF unit singles that uses the 7/16" UNF indicator fittings and also the rear mudguard/grab-rail bracket, I think they were made by Feridax back in the day.
One came up on eBay recently which I missed out on and I have attached the pics from the advert to give you an idea of what it looks like and also a picture of it loosely fitted too.
If there's anyone here with one of the chrome originals perhaps you too might want a stainless replacement and it could be used as a pattern?
I'm hoping for the price for these to come out at around £70/£80.
Let me know if you are interested?
Cheers John

Scroll down and you can see he does a TR5T version which is not far from your pics, he does commissions and small modifications seem to come free.

Yes he's the favourite to make these at the moment, I need to get a dimensioned sketch/drawing done soon before the final price is known.
The way this style of rack fits our bikes is neater than anything else I have seen and being in stainless is even better

Some pips on the underside at the coeners would be handy to stop the bungies slipping....

Minety, I'm sure some pips or hooks could be added if required.

I've had a price of £65-£70 + postage of approximately £10 in the UK for a stainless steel version of these racks from classicbikeracks.co.uk ...seems a fair price to me for a hand made rack in stainless steel?

MM is right. I have one of the painted luggage racks and you need an assortment of bungies to fasten your gear. A couple of strategically placed zip ties helps.

I am going to send my rack to classic racks to be replicated and would like to guage interest in these as it would help with negotiations as at the moment his discount to me hardly covers postage so I would be in a stronger position if I had an idea on numbers

I agree John the discount offered to you was less than I'd have thought, seeing as you were able to supply a perfect example of the rack to copy!

As the op for all of this, I obviously want one of the racks as I had one on a B50SS years ago, if it helps John I'm happy to pay any postage costs if it means I can purchase a stainless steel replica of this rack which is what I've wanted to be able to do all along.

If anyone here is interested I can assure you that you will not find another rack that fits our bikes anywhere near as good as this type does because they were designed specifically for OIF unit singles... IMO it's both a practical addition and it also looks good fitted

Cheers, John

Ok Gentleman, I have been informed that John at Classic bike racks has now coppied my rack and will be returning it to me at Stafford at the weekend, obviously the more enquiries he gets the more chance he will add it to his range, hopefully I will get a little discount for my involvement, see him for overseas shipping, thanks John.
