Thanks!

the registry looks good.
My main machine has the most info out of my lot. All 6 of mine are grouped together.
I take it this was very time consuming and indeed there must be some grey areas.
Or lack of data on some bikes.

One thought;
How can folks use that data base to search, compare, cross reference their bikes.
Or even quickly find a specific machine?

Yes my own bike with number HE1235, the despatch paper says:

it´s a KG code and delivered to BSA Baltimore

If you know the number:

Code: Select all

ctrl f
on the page
What do you want to compare?? I can make some other pages where you sort them in an other way.

Rickard...
What do I want to compare?
....er...I dont know!

Kind of shows my computer literacy, or lack of.
Fill me in...B50 registry for dummies.

Where can I enter a vin number at and come up with a particular bike.
Compare vin numbers VS date of production, destinations and the like I guess.

I figure I'm missing something...
I click on the registry, the page comes up, I have to scroll down while carefuly watching the data to find a particular bike.
Appears to be one long page.
I must be missing something.

Nice work Rickard!
Now I know the exact day my bike was built, and who ordered it. I doubt I could get that info anywhere else.

Thanks!

2many, you are thinking of a searchable database, this is more like a page with all data at once. You can use the search function in your browser, like Rickard said often ctrl-F, and enter either frame or engine number. You could also search for a specific year. Remember, this is only information about bikes entered by their owners to the database. Me, I searched for Fleron, a Swedish agency for BSA at the time.

Hi 2MR

You're right, it is all on one page. But as Rickard says this makes text searches very simple. Just hit Ctrl-F (control key and f key at same time, type in your search string and hit enter. It will find the text. Hit enter again and it will go to the next occurrence and so on. So if you want to find all the 'KG' bikes, it will find them one after another. If you know say an engine number, enter it or part of it. Typing AH3108 end Enter, will take you straight to a certain Swiss gent's bike.

If you want to more specific searches such as list all 1971 bikes, now in the UK but originally shipped to the States, that's a bit more complicated!

(As an aside, Ctrl-F is standard Windows functionality and so will work on all your software packages, browser, word processor, spreadsheet, email, financials, etc. I find it much quicker than moving my mouse up to the Edit menu and clicking on Search)

I'll let you add a bit more Rickard to mine - I looked at my receipt for when I purchased my B50SS-JE-15665 second hand.

Harwoods Info:
Harwood's of Richmond Ltd
12-14-16-18 Kew Foot Road
Richmond
Surrey

I paid 230 UK pounds for it 22 Dec 1973. From what you have said it was originally sold at Harwood's, then I guess sold back to them (my recollection was the original owner had trouble starting it). I was told it had been sitting in Harwood's showroom for 6 months gathering dust when I bought it. I managed to tour all of British Isles plus many other runs and added about 6,000 miles in first 6 months - mostly in the summer, two up and loaded.

Bike has been registered a few times:
The bike was originally purchased and registered LMU68K in UK 7 June 1972;
Ontario - 2099 - April 75;
New Zealand - 96 CRY - 28 June 78;
South Australia - TET 322 - 25 April 1979;
Queensland - SM 454 - 4 October 1999; and
Australian Capital Territory - 55021 - 18 September 2000.

I managed to get stopped in Canada and NZ riding it on "foreign plates" by actual customs agents (not police). I got chased by the former up the 401 in a car with a rotating red light :shock: . It saved a few months registration cost for me; luckily they didn't prosecute me for being unregistered.

A while back the Science Museum (in London) gave British motorcycle manufacturing paper info/records to relevant bike clubs. I think the UK BSAOC might have the info on what BSAs were supplied to what dealers/countries on what dates. I think Brian Pollitt (apologies if not spelt right) is the person there who deals with queries on dating etc :?:

The V.M.C.C. (Vintage Motorcycle Club) might also have all this info :?:

Once Rickard has finished his database (like painting the Fourth Rail Bridge in Scotland I suspect - never ending :!: ) I take my hat off to you for this Rickard :thumb. We will be able to see it here :thumb

Off topic I know, but the Forth Bridge has now been painted with an epoxy paint that should last for 20 years. I hope the info on this forum will last a lot longer <069

(In the US they say painting the Golden Gate, maybe they would like to buy some epoxy paint :grin: )

Hi Rich. I don´t think BSAOC have more info than there is in the owners database ( I think they have less :ban ). In the despatch records you can see where the bike was delivered ( Dealer ) apart from USA where you only have USA East or USA West in the records. What we should need was the records from USA East and West to see the dealers in USA .

Name of the Buyer of the bike is probably in the shops records.

Rickard

I am sure you are right. If you already have access to the dispatch records, I think that is all the info the Science Museum had to hand to the relevant clubs.

Do we know if anyone has sight of any records USA East or USA West might have kept, or anywhere else in the world that BSA exported to.

I would be amaised if any or many shop records still exist as to who bikes were sold to, but you never know.........

Rich

Rickard,
May I add a little history on my bikes?
B25SS - first sold by 'John T's Cycles' of Burlington, Wisconsin to Rudolf Wagner (now deceased) - last registered 1978 in WI (Plate # 16482) - sat in grain shed until 2008 when I purchased from the estate - re-registered in Illinois (Plate # CA 653) - shipped to Perth WA in 2009 - re-registered in WA (Plate # 1EI 234) - importation and going "over the pits" are not to be taken lightly - now living happily.....
B50SS - last registered 1975 in Minnesota (Plate # 88111) - then unregistered (offroad bike?) until I purchased in 2007 - re-registered in Illinois (Plate # BU 2439) - shipped to Perth WA in 2009 - in the process of re-registering in WA - now living happily - well it will be when the rockerbox oil leak is resealed.....
By the way should anyone be shipping bikes to Australia I have all sorts of information for them...
Best regards, and thank you for all your efforts managing this splendid website, Andrew

It might be too hard to put the pointers spot on.
As I look at my bikes (some are currently just frames) I see that they all dwell hundreds of miles from each other! :uhu

Still, the flag associated with each has the proper town.
Very nice work Rickard!
I just wont be completely relying on the google map to find other members while I'm riding out of town!
Ha, Ha...

And I'd have to think that my bikes would pay less storage fees if only they were all in one location. (tounge in cheek)
My google map, zoomed in, shows bikes in placerville, elk grove, grass valley, ect.
:werd But hey, at least they're all in central valley California. :ban
72 B50SS bought in 74, I'm the second owner
74 TR5MX bought in 77-new, I'm the original owner
