T 140 tank on B25/T25

Post by Langster » Fri Jul 03, 2020 10:10 pm

I'm working on my '71 T25 project bike. Looking to find a B50 engine to replace the 250 motor.

The bike will be road ridden. I dont plan to keep the original Triumph tank and like the look of the European T140 tank. There is a nice picture of Rick Fergusons racing B50 on this site which has the T140 tank on the standard frame.

Has anyone any comment on how easy / difficult it is to fit the T140 tank?

Ian

There is seller from India on Ebay, "royalchoppers ", who makes the European 3 gallon tank for the B25 and B50. I have contacted him in the past about making one in alloy and he said no problem. For some reason Ebay has his link locked, Cut and paste "Triumph Tr25 Bsa B25 B50 Black Fuel Tank (3 Gallon Model) With Fuel Cap|Fit For" in the search section. I have even thought about taking a couple if the aloy B25 tanks and having two of the cut and rewelded together to make a bigger one.

Hi Ian

A previous contributor on this site did what you are considering - see here. There is a fair bit of cutting an re-modelling required to clear the oil filler location. Also the tank is quite a bit longer so sits a bit too far back in my opinion.

I'm planning on doing something similar on another of my projects, as soon as I finish the others I've already started

Hi Jeff. This is the tank Ian is looking at - see here

Here's Jeff's link Triumph Tr25 BSA B25 B50 Black Painted Fuel Tank (3 Gallon Model) With Fuel Cap I'm not convinced it's 3 gallons unless it's 3 US gallons as opposed to proper British gallons

Jeff/Steve

Thanks for the info. I expected that surgery would be required to clear the oil filler. The seat does project back a way too. Something to think about. I was thinking of modifying the seat from the standard design.

The link takes me to what appears to be three differently priced versions in black of what I have currently in orange(2-1/2 US gal, 2 imp gal ). Not clear on why the price difference.

Still like the T140 looks.

Thanks

Ian

I am old enough to remember the dirt bike days of the 1960's and 70's. There used to be a lot of aftermarket manufacturers of bigger plastic gas tanks to increase your range for Enduro or woods riding. I wonder where they all went?

He is in India and I am not sure what system of gallons that they would be referring to. I think he copied the larger European BSA tank, if that is so then the tank would be longer and require the shorter seat. He will answer emails fast if you what to ask him.

I emailed him. He said 3 US gallons. I didn't think it looked very big.
