B50 alternator lead grommet

Post by Brad Jones » Fri Aug 25, 2017 7:49 pm

Does anyone know whether an alternator lead grommet (40-0705) that actually fits the cable and crankcase aperture properly exists? All efforts to secure such a part in recent years from various suppliers has just left me with having several that are virtually useless!

Any pointers would be most welcome - same goes for a quality chaincase gasket too.

I know what you mean, all the ones the dealers will sell you are nothing short of a joke.

This is what I have;
Sold as 40-0705 Made in UK, Alternator grommet; works fine for me. Soap helps to get the wires through.

Sold as 60-3161 Made in UK, Early side panel mount; Easier to fit but still seals fine.

Sold as Royal Enfield wiring grommet; my favourite.

Hi Chris

Nothing like you have, that's for sure! I can't even remember the last time I tried to obtain something that fits, but my 'stock' is made up from grommet's that either fit into the crankcase but freely slide up and down the stator lead, or some that are a good fit on the cable but just fall through the crankcase!!

How do I get hold of some of the 40-0705 grommets?
