New BSA
Very nice article in Motorcycle Classics magazine on the new BSA GoldStar. I just wish it weren't so heavy- 465 lb. wet.

I see that there are a couple of youtube videos popped up on the same subject, "Where is the bike?"
I'm guessing that they've got it on a diet in an attempt to lose some weight before it's unleashed on the public. I could offer up a suggestion, lose that fugly cooler on the front and come up with something a bit more aesthetically pleasing

I would say who ever designed this new Goldstar had no clue what he was doing.
So what are singles ( especially british ones ) known for ?
Light , easy to ride and habile motorrcycles for backroads and eventually a little bit offroad here and there.
How you can bild a single cylinder motorbike that weights more that 200 Kilos is beyond me

I have a 2010 Bonnevile SE which is really too heavy although they are progressively getting lighter with each model since then. The SE wet weight is 30lbs heavier than this single although some of that weight is down to extra fuel capacity. In this day and age that weight for a single makes it almost unsaleable. The old Goldstar was never a light machine and that was why owners customised them to lose a bit of lard to get them going faster. Emulating a lump is not going to win a lot of friends. Not on my radar. Time for them to go back to the drawing board (or should I say screen nowadays).

So if you want a lightweight modern single, are you suggesting BSA should be copying the KTM 390 Duke then? Goes like shit off a shovel apparently and no doubt as light as a feather. But like most modern bikes, they look hideous IMO. Why do these modern bikes look like you've melted all the front end plastics with the missus's hair dryer and made them droopy?
It may be lardy and not be a café racer but at least the new BSA looks like a proper motorbike.

No argument on its looks- they did a great job. But at an age where I can only deal with (pick it up, etc.) a lightweight bike, I couldn't consider the new BSA. [Back in '67 my new Victor Roadster 441 was 315 lb. and went like stink].

Yep! What Jack said. That 72 Gold Star in the garage weighs just the right amount, pulls like a train, and is comfortable in the saddle. However, this is the hardest to start B50 I have ever had, bar none!
I could go out there right now and it would start on the first light, half-hearted prod. And then, the next time nothing but, Whomp!, Whomp!, Whomp!
Like Jack and others here-abouts, we ain't 19 years old anymore and I am losing my patience with this machines truculence.
