If your fabrication doesn't last Beat, it's easy to make one from solid.

ha, ha.
you may not believe, - but my weak point is my right leg !

the trick is a very different starter technique to the others and to the BSA owners manual.

: I have modified the decompressor and I keep it " open " during kickstarting :!:

means : this 680er feels like a 250er ( ore a 125er ) to kick it over :ban

I'm guessing by keeping his thumb on the handlebar lever...

this is it.
just in my case, the lever is a prolonged " spoon "
DSCN2729.jpeg
but the tricky point is this one here:

DSCN2949.jpeg
a shaft with a eccentric bearing on it, means, by rotating the shaft, the bearing moves about 2 mm up and down.
DSCN2959.jpeg
DSCN2953.jpeg
so, - when the spoon is pushed to it's stop position, the bearing is pressing down the springloadet pin- and the pin is pressing on to the exhaust rocker to open the valve by around 0.08 mm.

this is it. very simply, but not a fife minute job I say.

vergot to say one of the most important points:
the let say 0.1 mm opening of the valve needs to be reached when the eccentric part of the spindle is reaching fully down position!

so the spindle is in a kind of locked in position. ( no force on the wire to the handlebar )
I do reach this by shimming the device higher ore lower with shims of 0.1mm, 0.2 mm ore 0.3 mm shims under the bosses of the bridge that hold the spindle.

it needs this because the spring force of the valve springs is enormious at this point of the rocker arm.
