Washer behind gearbox main bearing
Tell me please that the shield washer thing goes behind the gearbox main bearing and not the oil seal....I think I'm having a mid-life crisis!

If I am right, I do not have anything in there , - just the seal ring and the bearing -- 2 R S, - with both of its seals still in place...minetymenace wrote: ↑Mon Mar 13, 2023 8:47 pm Tell me please that the shield washer thing goes behind the gearbox main bearing and not the oil seal.

Re: Washer behind gearbox main bearing
Yea, seen that of course, but it doesn't clearly show if the washer is behind the seal, or behind the bearing, hence the question, I've gone for behind the bearing as it was in my bag of gearbox parts, but had a bit of a crisis....anyway it is fitted now and I won't find out if I am right or not until I assemble the cog box....but I'm feeling smugly confident....

Can you match the wear pattern sizes to the bearing or seal? that should tell you where it goes.

The bearing shield washer is in fact between the bearing and the oil seal. I think the idea is to stop the oil seal being pushed into the bearing.
Only B50's and later B25's have this.
Do not leave it out as it will reduce the engagement of the sliding gear when changing into top.

Yes, that is clear from the drawing.....but just to confirm, it goes in the gearbox, before the bearing goes in, NOT from the outside before the oil seal goes in.....Mark wrote:The bearing shield washer is in fact between the bearing and the oil seal

Re: Washer behind gearbox main bearing
If you put it in from the outside you will ruin it. This is reading like the bearing is in and the washer/spacer has been forgotten?

No, I guessed right!
The spacer is in the right place, I was just having a confidence crisis

Well done, many miss it out.
I think you can see the shim/spacer before the oil seal is fitted.
