B50 Frame CAD files
Hello ,
I've designed a copy of the B50 frame with my own CAD .
i 've used the blueprint of B50.org and some measurements on my own B50SS.
a few little functions are missing and some little mistakes , i guess .
if you find some , please tell me .
next , i'll design the swingingarm and it's spindle when it 'll be so cold that the '' little garage work '' will be impossible...
there are some free CADs avalaibles if need . i used some surface functions and some solid one. So The Step file don't like one of them , it doesn't recognize it . The IGES file is better.
You can open an IGES or STEP file but i can't attach such a file , it seems to be possible only with 2D file ( DXF ) .
So you can send me a private mail if you want a copy.

i try to give an access on the GRABCAD website .
to download a file , create an account and download it in the free library.
prefer the second release '' B50_frame_V2.IGS ''

It 's not as accurate as the '' Crankbuster work '' on Youtube but for someone who wants
to check a modification , it could help.
The swinging arm and adjuster dimensions are close to the B50 model.
The shock absorber is simplified but it 's here to be modified, i think.

Re: B50 Frame CAD files
Hello ,
The original file is made with an educational release of a wellknown software ( i prefer to write it in a personal mail ) because i was a mechanical teacher until 2019.
When i recover the Step or Iges file with Solidworks ( another 3D software ) there is only a little problem with the Step release for one surface function which is not recognized by Solidworks. No problem with the IGES file.
( photos joined in a previous post)
I can send the original file but i prefer a private post .
Sorry , a real '' 3D solid software '' must be used for a good result. ( some are free of fee )
Hoping it helps.

Re: B50 Frame CAD files
I tried opening both files in solidworks 2021 and they looked the same Francois. I know there is lots of options on how you can open them.
It was much better when we all worked in 2D IGES seemed to work with most cad systems.
I think with the info it did open with, it would be easy to skin it again.
Well done. I'm slowly converting all my old autocad drawings into solidworks.

Re: B50 Frame CAD files
After working with my fisrt sofware, I restored both files with a 2016 release of Solidworks with the standard option. (pictures joined)
I can make the Step with this release of Solidworks , maybe it can change the restoration for you.
My old licence of ProEngineer- CREO is obsolete but i can ask a friend to create another different Step file with it .
The best way would be the same soft but ...
Not sure to be ready for Christmas...

Re: B50 Frame CAD files
Hello Gerry ,
No problem for this.
It's true that the 3D files are sometimes difficult to translate.
But there is a good news , Solidworks recent releases can open CATIA V5 and CREO files directly without step or IGES files.
so i can send my original files if need be.
at this moment , i prefer a private mail .
Merry Christmas

Re: B50 Frame CAD files
Hello ,
For those who want to modify a part of their own frame or swingarm or make a tool which work with bending and/or twisting :
in France , we have a free and easy to use software which can calculate beam structures.
it 's a little one , very quick and easy to use with pictures .
it doesn't calculate the welds , '' no one knows '' , but you can compare two shapes of pipes with different materials , different sections
and make a choice with the deformation and stress results.
Sure , the same one exists in UK or USA , but i don't know.
It has been created by '' Le Mans '' university , 100 % free. It 's a calculating software , not for designer.
http://iut.univ-lemans.fr/ydlogi/rdm_version_7.html ( 64 bit release ) click on '' install_ rdm 7 ''
http://iut.univ-lemans.fr/ydlogi/rdm_version_6.html ( 32 bit release ) click on '' install_rdm6 ''
i can help , if someone wants to use it.

Re: B50 Frame CAD files
It's not that hard to calculate the tensile strength of a weld, it used to be first year stuff for welding students. But rather than use maths, destructive testing is the best way. I bet most of these so called frame makers have never done a destructive weld test. (not on purpose!)it doesn't calculate the welds , '' no one knows '' ,

Re: B50 Frame CAD files
Right Mark ,
I just wanted to say that the calculation of welds is very difficult .
CAD software ( Solidworks , CATIA , CREO , ...) can calculate welds but the results are often wrong for many reasons.
Only special sofware , like ANSYS , can accuratly calculate the welds and it 's very long and expensive .
Experience is priceless ...
'' RDM Le Mans '' is a little tool for beams structures , quick and easy .
