I have a B25 engine stripped down , however I have the crankshaft still in the timing side half as I am not sure on the method to remove the oil pump worm drive gear, not wishing to damage anything I thought I would ask
You need a 2 leg puller but you will need to grind the feet so they are thin enough to get behind the worm gear but long enough to get in past the teeth. I bought the cheapest available and ground away, the puller now sits in the toobox and is only used for this and a couple of other similar tasks.
I do not see any way to get a small puller onto the gear, it sits square onto a large thick washer with a bevelled edge, and there is no room between this and the crankcase bearing housing to get puller legs into
You wont get the puller legs behind the worm gear, the legs need to be thin enough to go between the worm teeth. Then put a jubilee clip across the legs to stop them pulling apart.
thanks all done, I just belted the crank through the bearing with a big lump hammer, :-) Only joking I made an alloy drift with a small diameter end to go into the oil hole, Then some gentle heat just to break any corrosion and then knocked it through, no damage done to end of crank.
